Florida’s New Fingerprinting Law for Electrologists: What You Need to Know (Effective July 1, 2025)

What You Need to Know: New Law Affects All Electrologists

Beginning July 1, 2025, every licensed electrologist in Florida must comply with a new fingerprinting law for electrologists including updated background screening rules under House Bill 975 (HB 975). This includes:

  • First-time license applicants
  • Professionals renewing their license
  • Electrologists previously fingerprinted under older rules

This law is not just for students. All practitioners are responsible for compliance.

Florida’s New Fingerprinting Law for Electrologists: What You Need to Know (Effective July 1, 2025)​

HB 975, passed in March 2024, improves safety and consistency across healthcare licensing by requiring:

  • Level 2 fingerprint-based background checks
  • Photo capture at fingerprinting
  • Results stored for five years in the Florida Care Provider Clearinghouse

Who Else Is Affected?

HB 975 also applies to many professionals licensed by the Florida Department of Health, including:

  • Massage Therapists
  • Nurses (RNs, LPNs, APRNs)
  • Physicians, DOs, PAs
  • Mental Health Counselors & Therapists
  • Pharmacists & Pharmacy Techs
  • Physical & Occupational Therapists
  • Radiologic Techs, Respiratory Therapists
  • Clinical Lab Personnel
  • Acupuncturists, Midwives, Dietitians, Chiropractors, Opticians

What You Need to Do as a Florida Electrologist

1. Submit Electronic Fingerprints
  • Must be done through an FDLE-approved Livescan provider
  • Provide this required ORI number: EDOH4580Z
2. Complete Level 2 Background Screening
  • Required every 5 years and for new licensees
  • Fee: $43.25, paid to FDLE
3. Photo Required

Your photo will be taken on-site by the Livescan provider and stored with your record.

✅ Step 1: Register in CHAI

Visit: https://chai.flclearinghouse.com
Log in with your one-time code from the Florida Department of Health.

✅ Step 2: Locate or Schedule a Livescan Appointment

Use the “Locate a Provider” tool at FLHealthSource.gov.

✅ Step 3: Print Your Request Form

Bring your Livescan Request Form to your appointment. It includes your Screening Request ID and ORI.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

  • Printed Livescan Request Form
  • Two forms of valid ID:
    • Primary: Driver’s license, passport
    • Secondary: SS card, birth certificate, voter ID, utility bill
  • Your Social Security Number
  • Payment for any additional service fees
  • Ask for your Transaction Control Number (TCN)
