Facial Specialist Florida Eligibility Requirements
In Florida, becoming a licensed Facial Specialist requires completing 220 hours of approved education through a licensed school and submitting an application to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). Unlike many other states, Florida does not require candidates to pass a national written or practical exam for Facial Specialist registration. This streamlined licensing process allows graduates to start their careers faster while still meeting all professional and safety standards. Below are the current Florida licensure requirements:
- Be at least 16 years of age or have a high school diploma.
- Have a valid driver’s license or other form of identity.
- Take an approved HIV/AIDS Course.
- There is no Florida state board exam requirement for facial specialist, nail specialist or full specialist licensure.
- To apply for a facial specialist license or for more information on Florida Facial Specialist licensure requirements, visit the Florida DBPR Cosmetology regulations website, Facial Specialist Registration (Cosmo 1).
Electrologist Florida Eligibility Requirements
To become a licensed Electrologist in Florida, you’ll need to complete a state-approved program, pass the Florida IBEC Electrology, Laser and IPL Exam, submit your application, and meet a few basic eligibility requirements. At the Institute for Medical Aesthetics and Laser (IMAGE), our Electrolysis Program fully prepares you to meet all licensing requirements quickly and confidently. Here’s what you’ll need to qualify for your Electrologist License:
- Be at least 18 years of age or have a high school diploma.
- Have a valid driver’s license or other form of identity.
- Complete 320 hours of training in a Florida approved Electrolysis Program.
- Pass the Florida IBEC Electrology, Laser, and IPL Exam.
- Submit a completed application and pay applicable fees via the Florida Dept of Health Electrolysis Council website.
- Undergo a Level 2 background screening (including fingerprinting).
- IMAGE students who do not pass the IBEC exam on their first attempt may return for up to 10 hours of remedial tutoring or refresher courses at no additional cost.
FAQ
Common Questions
What should I wear?
We wear scrubs to be comfortable and professional. Before purchasing your uniform, make sure to choose scrubs in the approved color (teal) and pair them with closed-toed shoes for a safe, polished look.
See our online guide for recommendations and a discount code.
Are the online classes on Zoom?
No, our online classes are part of the Milady curriculum and do not require any scheduled video meetings. Students can complete all of their online work on their own schedule.
Do you offer financial aid?
No, IMAGE does not offer federal financial aid. However, we offer an IMAGE Scholarship and flexible payment options to help reduce tuition costs for eligible students enrolled in one of our core programs.
Can I attend a mix of AM, Afternoon, and PM classes?
We often get this question—and while we understand the need for flexibility, we’re committed to providing structured, high-quality training that sets you up for success.
Each of our class tracks (AM, Afternoon, or PM) is designed to move together as a group, with hands-on practice and theory lessons building on each other in a specific order. For this reason, students must stick to the class schedule they enrolled in and cannot mix between time slots.
Most of our programs meet only 3 to 4 days per week for 4 hours per session, which is already a much more manageable schedule than many other beauty schools. Our competitors often require students to attend full days, five days a week—we’ve made it as convenient as we can while still delivering real, hands-on training.
If you’re unsure which time slot works best for your schedule, we’re happy to help you choose the right class from the start!
