How to Print Your Florida Cosmetology or Facial/Nail Specialist License
By Emily Tichy | InstituteIMAGE.com
Congratulations! You’ve finished your program, passed your exams, and you’re ready to launch your new career in the beauty and aesthetics industry. But before you start taking clients, there’s one important step you can’t skip: printing your license.
Many of our graduates ask when their license will arrive in the mail. The answer? It won’t. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) has gone paperless—so if you’re waiting at your mailbox, it’s time to check your email inbox instead. The DBPR will email you your license the first time when you are approved, but if you cannot find the email you follow these steps to print a new copy.
Here’s exactly how to download and print your license, step by step.
Why You Won’t Get a Mailed License
Back in 2019, the Florida Board of Cosmetology transitioned to a paperless system for all licenses. This means:
- You will not receive a license by mail after applying or renewing.
- You can access your license faster—no need to wait weeks for printing and shipping.
- You can print as many copies as needed (perfect if you work in multiple locations).
This applies to licenses for:
- Facial Specialist
- Nail Specialist
- Full Specialist
- Cosmetologist
How to Print Your License (Step-by-Step)
Follow these steps and you’ll have your official license ready to print in just a few minutes.
Step 1: Complete Any Required Education
If you’re applying for your first license, make sure your school submitted your graduation and hours to the state, and that you’ve completed the 4-hour HIV/AIDS course.
Already licensed and just renewing? The requirement for continuing education is now 10 hours (down from 16). Make sure that’s complete before you try to renew and print.
Step 2: Visit the DBPR Online Services Portal
Go to the official DBPR portal:
https://www.myfloridalicense.com/
Click “My Account” and log in. If you haven’t registered before, choose “Create My Account” and follow the prompts.
Step 3: Link Your License
Once you’re logged in, look for “Link an Existing License” if it’s not already connected. You’ll need:
- Your license number (look for it in your approval email from the Board)
- Your Social Security Number (last 4 digits)
- Your date of birth
Once linked, your license will appear under “Licenses Linked to My Online Services Account.”
Step 4: Print Your License Certificate
- Select your license from the list
- Click “Print License Certificate” (you’ll find this in the sidebar or top menu—mobile view may look different)
- Confirm your contact information when prompted
- Submit the request
Your certificate will be sent to your email!
Step 5: Check Your Email & Print
The DBPR will email your printable certificate to the email address on file. Make sure this is a working address that you check regularly. (Typos like “.con” instead of “.com” are more common than you think!)
Print your license at home, at work, or anywhere with a printer—Staples, FedEx, UPS, library, etc.
Step 6: Attach a 2×2 Photo & Laminate It
Per Florida law, your license must:
- Have a 2×2” headshot photo of you attached
- Be permanently laminated
This is required before displaying your license at any workstation or salon. You don’t need a professional photographer or camera. You can attach a passport photo, or take a selfie and print your photo on regular paper on a color printer, just don’t forget to laminate it!
From Rule 61G5-20.004:
Your license must be clearly visible at your station and include a recent 2×2 photo, laminated. Working without this can result in a $100 fine per violation.
Final Tips from IMAGE
- Double-check your email spelling when creating your DBPR account.
- Save a PDF copy of your license to your phone or computer.
- Display your laminated license at every location you work. It’s required by law.
- Still waiting for your application to be approved? You can check your status at https://www.myfloridalicense.com under “Application Status.”
